Rigid Mesh vs Foam Pre-Filters on ASIC Intakes

Walk into any hardware market near Incheon and you will find both cut-to-size foam sheets and aluminium mesh rolls. Miners often grab foam because it looks thorough. On a high-airflow rig, foam can be the wrong choice.

Foam strengths and failures

Foam captures fine particles well when new. After two weeks at 0.08 TH/s equivalent airflow, many foam pads compress toward the fan and increase whistle noise without improving filtration.

Mesh trade-offs

Rigid mesh passes more coarse dust but stays shape-stable. Pair it with a weekly brush-down and you often see lower core temperatures than with saturated foam.

Frame matters more than material

A warped frame lets dust bypass the filter entirely. We recommend L-channel aluminium stock from local suppliers—dimensions vary by model and we list them in on-site reports.

Hybrid approach

Some operators use mesh as the structural layer and a thin washable sock outside the box. Document whichever stack you use so you do not double-choke intake on clean days.
